About Us

A letter to customers and our local customer's who supported us for over 26 years:

It is with a mixture of personal excitement and loss that we are announcing the closing of After 27 years we have made a personal decision that it is time to move forward toward the next chapter of our lives. First and foremost we want to thank you, our customers, for your continued support over the decades. It has been fun & rewarding and we have made many great friendships. The reasons for closing are many, but suffice it to say it was a difficult decision. While we are deeply saddened by the closing of this chapter of our lives, we are excited to begin the next.

We are planning to remain in operation through the end of November, though this may change as our inventory dwindles. Our liquidation sales have already begun. While the discounts will get larger, we are no longer replenishing our stock and the selection will diminish. Buy sooner rather than later to avoid stock up on what you use most. Please note that all items are final sale as of this announcement, we will no longer accept returns.

As they say, everything must go. For our local customers, we will now be open to the public on Wednesdays from 12:30-4:30 for an every changing selection of clearance sales. Items included in these sales will not be available online, they include used tools, $5 grab bags, hodgepodge stashes of well below cost lovelies, and best of all, each sale will feature a selection from the owners' personal bead stash. Check out the details here.

Thanks you for your support & Bead On,

Lisa & Jim Kaufman

... for the love of beads

Lisa & Jim Kaufman grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. Jim was a navy man and he was stationed in Alameda, CA in 1985 with his (beautiful and ever so stylish) wife. During this period of her life, Lisa took advantage of the rich culture found in the San Francisco Bay Area. She stumbled upon a bead store one day and then suddenly, everything changed.

As an avid beader, Lisa was driven to open her own bead store that was curated specifically for active beader's.  Top of her list was access to information, a knowledgeable staff, and an ever-changing selection. Together, Lisa & Jim opened Baubles & Beads in 1991 in Berkeley, CA.
